Humane Encounters
And Development

Welcome to my website!

My name is Harry Hummels and I am a Full Professor of Ethics, Organisations and Society at the School of Business and Economics at Maastricht University.

This website is about what I hold important in life: love, food, trust, ethics, impact - and their organisation. It expresses my appreciation for Karl Marx' 11th Thesis on Feuerbach: "Die Philosophen haben die Welt nur verschieden interpretiert; es kömmt drauf an, sie zu verändern." (Philosophers have only interpreted the world in various ways; the point is to change it.)" Let's get going!

You are most welcome to download my publications and engage in a conversation. Have fun!
What can
we change?
Agape
Agape is a commitment to the well-being and flourishing of others. It is the cornerstone of creating a humane society
Organising
A humane society requires organising that recognises the abilities, needs, ideas, desires, and hopes of others.
Ethics
Ethics refers to the ongoing conversation on how we want to live together in a humane society.
Trust
Trust allows us to live together humanely – expecting our backs to be covered when we are not looking.
Impact
Investing in a humane society requires walking the talk, while talking during the walk about the real change that takes place.
Cook the books
A humane society requires constant discourse about how the books are cooked and what can be done to create change for the good.
